Volvo’s FH takes the pressure at MLG Transport

Elgin-based, MLG Transport has put its first Volvo truck into operation. Supplied by Kevin Fraser, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus North & Scotland’s Inverness dealerpoint, the FH tractor unit is equipped with a tyre pressure control system and will predominately be used for the company’s round timber transport operations.

Opting for Volvo's Globetrotter cab on a 6x2 rear steer, tag axle chassis, MLG Transport's new arrival is powered by Volvo's D13K engine producing 500hp, coupled to a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission system. The hydraulically-steered tag axle and drive axle are both fitted with a Tireboss tyre pressure control system, which provides eight different pressure settings for either on or off road works.

The FH also features a low maintenance Jost JSK fifth wheel, a hydraulic kit and extra chequer plate chassis infills.

MLG Transport's instantly recognisable company livery is finished with a new Volvo cab paint colour, Cappuccino Brown Pearl, complemented with graphics by Driver Signs, a factory-painted red chassis and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels, the FH-500's presentation standard is superb. Inside the driver benefits from a single bunk living package and leather seats, in addition to a fridge and microwave oven.

"In 27 years of business, this is the first time we've bought a Volvo truck," reports Michael Gradon, Partner at MLG Transport, adding. "It's early days yet, but so far; so good. The driver likes it and the I-Shift gearbox seems particularly refined."

To guarantee 100 per cent uptime, MLG Transport opted for a three-year Volvo Gold Service Contract. "We will carry out the six weekly inspections back at base and Volvo's Gold Contract was an attractive option, both operationally and financially," notes Michael.

Volvo's Dynafleet fleet management system is also providing MLG Transport with real-time operating data via the Dynafleet app. The company's new Volvo also has the capability to work on local livestock operations and longer distance transport of finished timber products, if required.
