The beating heart of the Volvo FH16 powertrains is our D16 step D engine range, available with either 550 hp, 650 hp or 750 hp. And up to 3550 Nm of pure torque.
Regardless of output level, you’ll have access to an impressive level of torque across a wide range of engine speeds – the torque curve is really flat. You’ll be able to stay in high gears even during climbs, and benefit from great driving comfort and low fuel consumption.
I-Shift is an entire range of automated gearboxes that makes driving easier, safer and more comfortable. There’s no heavy clutch pedal, and no stick to wrestle with. Every gear change is perfectly timed – automatically. A range of software packages lets you tailor the I-Shift for your needs. There are features available for the I-Shift that enable one pedal driving when managing tough terrain and when switching between forward and reverse. For the Volvo FH16, you can also get your I-Shift with crawler gears to improve startability in poor conditions while retaining fuel efficiency. Add the option of ultra-low crawler gears and multi-speed reverse gears, and you can drive as slowly as 0.5–2 km/h with total control over your engine torque.
