To reduce its fleet emissions, Hawkins Logistics has taken delivery of two new Volvo FM Electric 4x2 tractor units – the first heavy-duty electric trucks the company has welcomed into its fleet.
In line with our commitment to innovation and sustainability, we are thrilled to unveil these Volvo FM Electric trucks. This significant investment not only underscores our dedication to reducing our carbon footprint but also empowers us to lead the charge towards a greener and more eco-conscious future for the logistics industry.
As a loyal Volvo Trucks customer of many years, Hawkins Logistics approached the manufacturer to supply the company’s first-ever electric tractor units.
The two new arrivals are direct replacements for diesel models in the business’ fleet, providing an immediate boost to its ongoing sustainability drive.
Paul Hawkins, Operations Director, Hawkins Logistics, says: “The Hartshorne team proved an invaluable asset in helping us to pinpoint exactly how and where Volvo’s electric technology trucks could work within our busy fleet.”
Supplied by Jason Woodley, Area Sales Manager, Hartshorne Group, the FM Electrics both feature three electrical motors, generating an output of 666 hp and 2,400 Nm of continuous torque, paired with a standard I-Shift gearbox to deliver a smooth and ultra-quiet in-cab driving experience.
This impressive performance is handled by an electromobility traction control system to help manage power output on slippery surfaces, while different drive modes are available to set the desired performance, comfort, and energy usage levels.
They have also been fitted with full air suspension, spacious Globetrotter cabs, and Alcoa Dura Bright alloy wheels. A comfort-boosting Drive++ package also adds dual armrests, leather upholstery and fully electronic air conditioning with sun, mist and air quality sensors and a carbon filter.
The new vehicles will be used to service local deliveries for Hawkins Logistics, covering up to 250 km daily before returning to charge overnight at the customer’s Fradley depot.
“We’ve already heard from many of our regular customers who are eager to welcome our new electric tractor units to their sites, ” adds Hawkins. “We cannot wait to hit the road.”
Both trucks are fully backed through comprehensive five-year Volvo Gold Contracts to guarantee maximum uptime. This includes preventative maintenance and repairs, plus the monitoring of key systems including batteries and other critical components.
