The used truck donation follows on from a £67,080 contribution raised from an auction at Volvo UK's 50th anniversary Gala dinner which saw a top-of-the-range ‘limited edition' gold FH16-750 with the registration plate ‘FH16 ONE' sold to Manfreight of Northern Ireland.
The donated 2012 Volvo FH 6x2 tractor unit comes direct from Volvo's approved Used Truck stock and features a 460hp Euro-5 engine coupled to a 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission system. The 3900mm wheelbase chassis is also fitted with a plain white Globetrotter XL cab.
Transaid's Road Safety Project Manager, Neil Rettie, says, "This vehicle donation from Volvo will make a real difference to our Professional Driver Training project - Uganda. With drivers starting training in November, this vehicle has come at a perfect time. We are hugely thankful to Volvo for this donation which will enable thousands of drivers to be trained over the next few years."
Volvo Trucks has been a strong supporter of Transaid since becoming a corporate member in 2009. The FH tractor unit donation has been a direct response to an appeal by Transaid in the summer to find a second-hand tractor unit to support a new driver-training project in Uganda.
