Williams & Williams Director and owner Meurig Jones explains that this is the first Volvo truck to join the fleet for several years. "The new Volvo collects trade waste and normally operates within an approximately 15 mile radius of base. It replaces a 7.5 tonner which is now too small for the job. This new FL suits the area which has a mix of terrain and types of access."

Plated for operation at 16 tonnes GVW, Williams & Williams' short-wheelbase FL 4x2 rigid is equipped with Volvo's 8-litre D8K six-cylinder diesel rated at 250hp (184Kw). The truck is also fitted with an Allison automatic gearbox and the drive axle is air suspended.

Unusually for an RCV, specification of the FL includes polished 19.5 inch aluminium wheels, shod with low profile 285/70R tyres. The high profile Rear End Loader (REL) is also equipped with Kelsa light bars, sunvisor and an impressive new ‘wrapped' livery and paint job.

The truck was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials at Deeside and is serviced on a Volvo Repair & Maintenance contract, including ‘O' Licence Inspections, which are carried out by the dealer's Volvo trained technicians on Williams & Williams' premises.

The FL's bodywork was manufactured and fitted by Kidderminster, Worcestershire-based NTM. The 13.2 cubic metre capacity ‘K-Maxi' Refuse Compaction body is fitted with NTM's barlift.
