The group of ten FHs all feature Volvo’s D13K Euro-6 engine producing 500hp, I-Shift automated transmissions systems and Globetrotter Cabs. The 4,100mm wheelbase 6x2 pusher axles chassis also sport front steel, rear air suspension systems and air-actuated sliding fifth wheels. Inside the drivers benefit from Drive+ and Single Bed living packages, alongside 33-litre refrigerators.
Well-known for its two-man home delivery across the UK, BJS Home Delivery will use the new Volvo FHs for bulk load collections from suppliers’ premises, in addition to general hire and reward haulage.
“We’re sweating our assets with the new Volvo trucks, to maximise efficiencies,” Gareth Pritchard Transport Manager at BJS Home Delivery, reports adding, “the hire and reward work mitres perfectly into our operations, as distances to collections at suppliers’ premises can be considerable and it’s not an option to run empty to these sites.”
The ten new vehicles now boost BJS Home Delivery’s heavy truck fleet up to a total of 21 and are complemented by a large contingent of panel vans.
“The mainstay of our business is home delivery and assembly of furniture for our customers. The heavy truck fleet deliver into our three UK depots and play a key part in the supply chain,” Gareth adds.
BJS Home Delivery’s new map style graphics livery was designed by Manchester-based, Telling Stories and manufactured by AST Signs.
“The sales process with Jamie Stanley at Hartshorne was fantastic and this standard has continued with his after-service and on-going support levels. Our drivers like the new FHs too. The spacious and comfortable Globetrotter Cabs are proving ideal for their nights out every week,” Gareth notes.
“Our first batch of Volvo trucks entered service back in April and it’s ‘so far; so good’. I’m really happy with their performance levels and exceptional fuel economy figures. Our trucks average around 110,000 kilometres per year and we’re also comparing Volvo’s Dynafleet management system to our existing tracking and telematics programme,” concludes Gareth.
