GD Woodworking Ltd has recently put a new Volvo FE rigid into service

Supplied by Kevan Morris, Area Sales Manager at Crossroads Truck and Bus Ltd, the new truck was purchased after the solid performance of the company’s first Volvo - a similar FE rigid - which entered service in October last year.

GD Woodworking Ltd opted for a 6800mm wheelbase on its latest FE 18-tonne rigid, which is powered by Volvo’s D8K engine producing 250hp. The chassis comes with a steel-suspended, eight-tonne front axle and an air-suspended, 13-tonne drive axle, with a ratio of 3.08:1. The new FE also benefits from EBS+, Traction Control and Hill Hold, whilst its 32-foot curtainside bodywork was manufactured by Micra Truck Bodies Ltd. Rounding off the order is a five year Volvo Service Contract with Crossroads Truck and Bus Ltd in Rotherham.

We took delivery of our first Volvo FE rigid last October and are extremely happy with its performance levels, in addition to the available load space and payload capacity. The latter two factors have given us a completely different outlook to customer deliveries,” reports Mark Ducker, Factory Manager at GD Woodworking Ltd, adding, “On the back of this performance we were more than happy to place a second order for the new Volvo FE.

He adds, "Our drivers rate Volvo highly and our business is located right next to Crossroads Truck and Bus. That close proximity is superb, so we have vehicles serviced in the evening, which means no loss of productivity, as our factory turns out around 90 flights per day.
