Volvo trucks’ return to Flemings of Rosyth is a moving story

The two FL-210 12-tonne rigids were supplied by Scott Millar, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland’s Edinburgh dealerpoint. The two vehicles are finished in Winter White paint, which is contrasted by some additional Ford Radiant Red paintwork and they specified day cabs on 5,000mm wheelbase chassis to accommodate the company’s Adcliffe demountable body systems.

We have a total of 14 separate Adcliffe bodies that can be used with the two new Volvo FLs and that gives us superb vehicle utilisation,” reports Andrew Fleming, Director at Flemings of Rosyth.

Powered by Volvo’s D5K four cylinder, Euro-6 engines producing 210hp, the rigids also come equipped with six-speed overdrive I-Sync automated gearboxes. Rounding off the powertrain are RSS0819A rear drive axles with a ratio of 3.73:1. Flemings of Rosyth opted for two person, bench passenger seats, as the trucks will always be double-manned and occasionally will host an third crew member. The new arrivals also carry chassis mounted storage boxes for the carriage of additional Ad Blue containers. The latter guarantees supplies when the trucks operate in remote or rural areas, such as the Highlands and Islands of Scotland

The two FLs are our first Volvo trucks for 20 years,” Andrew informs adding, “Volvo offered us a very comprehensive specification that could not be equalled by other makers. We required several additional items such as differential locks and ferry lashing hooks. Nothing was a problem during the specification process and we will certainly look at Volvo again for future vehicle purchases.”

Founded in 1968 by John and Hilda Fleming, the firm’s first operations concentrated on potato transport, before the couple diversified into removals later in the same decade. Daily operations are now managed by second generation Andrew and his wife Lorraine, Barbara, Graeme and Susan. The third generation of the family is also now involved.

As members of the British Association of Removers (BAR) the company adhere to the highest industry standards ensuring its customers always receive a top quality service.

Flemings currently operates a mixed marque, ten-strong truck fleet and employs 33 staff. A fleet on nine Luton-type vans also complements the HGVs at their Inverkeithing base. Operating across the UK and Europe, Flemings of Rosyth also offer self-storage facilities and a sister company, Simply Shredding, specialises in secure document destruction.
