Volvo Trucks Travel Lite to tip-ex 2018 with two high-spec’ construction trucks

Volvo Trucks is exhibiting two high-specification, construction-focused vehicles at Tip-Ex 2018, which will be held at the Convention Centre in Harrogate, West Yorkshire from 31st May to 2nd June 2018. One is a payload-friendly, day-cabbed FMX 8x4 tipper with a Thompsons Loadmaster Lite body, and the other is an FH-13 Lite 6x2 pusher axle tractor unit. Both trucks are finished in an eye-catching ‘Smurf Blue’ Metallic livery.

The stand, located Hall B, will also highlight how Volvo Trucks offer the construction industry a fully-integrated service for all sectors of the business from quarrying, mining and road construction to refurbishment, brick and block or coated stone deliveries.

The FMX 8x4 rigid is fitted with a Day cab and this chassis is carefully configured for a wide cross-section of typical multi-axle tipper operations. Powered by Volvo's D13K Euro-6, engine rated at 460hp, the truck also boasts Volvo's award-winning I-Shift automated transmission, with the optional TP LONG software programme. The twin RSS2370 rear drive axles, with a combined capacity of 21-tonnes, come with a ratio of 3.09:1 and the 5,100mm Medium Height, B Ride chassis is finished off with Michelin tyres on Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. A 330 litre fuel tank is joined by a plastic Ad Blue tank holding 32 litres.

This fully air-suspended vehicle has a wander lead for full ride height control and inside the cab, Volvo's celebrated Dynamic steering is joined by an optional Media Pack with navigation package. Volvo's factory-fitted, additional lower passenger door window helps safeguard vulnerable road users in urban environments and the vehicle features a Thompsons Loadmaster Lite tipper body.

The second Volvo display truck is an FH Lite 6x2 pusher axle tractor unit fitted with the mid-choice Globetrotter Cab. This vehicle is specifically aimed at road transport operations requiring optimum payload, such as artic bulk tankers and tippers and delivers a class-leading driver experience.

The FH is again powered by Volvo's D13K Euro-6 engine, but this time rated at 500hp and comes with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox driving an RSS1144A rear axle with a final drive ratio of 2.64:1. The FH's 4,100mm wheelbase chassis features front steel suspension with Monoleaf parabolic springs. The Lite pusher axle and drive axle are suspended with air bellows, whilst the Alcoa Brushed aluminium wheels are shod with Michelin tyres.

Other chassis fitments see a Jost cast fifth wheel, a 405 litre fuel tank and an Ad Blue reservoir with a 32 litre capacity. In addition to the Lite axle's weight saving, Volvo's newly-optimised air-suspended rear axle reduces the truck's GVW by a further 90kgs, whist offering an 11.5 tonne load capacity.

Inside the spacious Globetrotter Cab includes a Dynamic Steering, Volvo's Drive++ and 1 bed FH package, plus the driver benefits from a number of clever design features that include an air-suspended seat and a 33-litre under-bunk refrigerator. Other optional extras include a Living Package, Media Pack with Navigation and an Active Safety + programme.

According to Volvo Trucks UK Commercial Director Mike Corcoran, demand for the FH and FMX ranges is exceeding expectations, despite the somewhat fragile nature of the economy, "The demand in the UK for our FMX vehicles especially is proof that Volvo have really got it right in terms of providing construction truck operators with a product and transport solution that meets their need for a tough, durable tipper with a top class driver environment with industry-leading productivity."

Volvo Trucks and sister company, Volvo Construction Equipment, offer a wide range of highly productive, low emission, driver-friendly, fuel efficient trucks, for on and off-road operation, to all sizes of construction, mining and quarrying companies.

Operators of Volvo Trucks construction vehicles in the UK can take advantage of the extensive product range and gross operating weights that now extend from 10 to 180 tonnes under STGO CAT3 rules.

In addition, Volvo Trucks' staff will be presenting a series of ‘Pop-up' informal 10-15 minute talks on ‘Direct Vision' and ‘Alternative Fuels' at the stand during the Thursday and Friday of the Show. All are welcome and full details will be announced during the event.
