Three Volvo truck technicians reach the semi-finals of world skills UK heavy vehicle technicians competition

Volvo Trucks are delighted to announce that three of its technicians have reached the semi-finals of the prestigious WorldSkills UK Heavy Vehicle Technicians Competition, which is organised by The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) under the Skill Auto banner.

Volvo Trucks are delighted to announce that three of its technicians have reached the semi-finals of the prestigious WorldSkills UK Heavy Vehicle Technicians Competition, which is organised by The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) under the Skill Auto banner.

 A total of 144 delegates have taken part in the initial rounds and just 18 technicians now progress to the semi-finals, which will be held in Loughborough, Leics during July 2018. Stuart Burkat from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London- Enfield, Stuart Sturgess from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London- Croydon and James Wade from MC Truck and Bus Ltd, of Hythe, Kent are the successful trio representing Volvo Group. 

The WorldSkills UK competition focuses on all the essential requirements for a successful career as an automotive technician. The competition has been designed to reflect the work role of a heavy vehicle automotive technician, including skills such as time management, planning and problem solving. The contest consists mainly of practical work on heavy commercial vehicles and components around fault diagnosis, component replacement and repair.

 The semi-finals will consist of six tasks and may include assessment of any of the following: engine electrical systems, engine mechanical systems, steering and suspension, transmission systems, braking systems and vehicle inspections.

After completion of these tasks, the top six candidates will progress to the final, which will be held, during the WorldSkills UK LIVE Show (15th - 17th November 2018) at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham.
