The new group consists of two FMX tractor units and two FM 8x4 hook lifts. The new FMX tractor units replace models from another truck manufacturer, as the company looks to implement a Volvo-only policy on any trucks that are 18-tonnes and above. The new 6x4 tractors are powered by Volvo’s six-cylinder Euro 6 D13K engine delivering 500hp and 2,500Nm of torque. The two trucks feature FMX Sleeper Cabs, specified with Volvo’s One Bed Resting packages, roof hatches and tinted windows.
The 8x4 FM rigid hook lifts are powered by the D11K Volvo engines producing 410hp, mated to Volvo’s I-Shift automated transmission systems. The vehicles replace existing FMs that were on the company fleet and come complete with FM Day Cabs, cruise control and a three-year subscription to the Dynafleet telematics and tracking system.
The FMX and FMs are subject to three-year and two-year warranties respectively.
John McDaid, Transport Director at McGrath Group, reports the decision to choose Volvo trucks was straightforward: “We were keen to upgrade the lifting equipment that we use on our vehicles and these new Volvos give us the ability to do that. With the FMX tractor units, we were particularly impressed with the improved manoeuvrability, driveability and fuel consumption that we experienced.”
John continues, “We are concentrating our efforts into waste and resource management sites, so needed vehicles on the fleet that would give us the optimal reliability and performance for the job. We have a great working relationship with the team at Volvo Truck and Bus London in Enfield and it is our regular supplier of vehicles. We’re very happy with the level of service from Stephen Askew and the rest of the team there and look forward to doing more business with them in the future.”
