Volvo supplies two new top tippers for ASB Transport

ASB Transport has taken delivery of two new Volvo FM 8x4 tippers, citing the trucks’ residual value and the fantastic support from the manufacturer’s dealer network as the main reasons for this latest order.

The Nuneaton-based operator supplies vehicles for the aggregates and asphalt industry. It now runs 20 trucks in total, all meeting Euro 6 emissions standards, and 18 of which are Volvos.

Supplied by Richard Moorse, Regional Sales Manager at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, the two new FMs are built on a 5,100mm wheelbase and are powered by Volvo's Euro 6, D11K engines – producing 460 hp and a top torque of 2,220 Nm.

“We did look at two other manufacturers for this order, but after careful consideration we went back to Volvo,” says John Singh, owner of ASB Transport. “I’ve always been a big Volvo product man. In my eyes, it’s superior to anything else on the market. The performance with the automated I-Shift gearbox is fantastic and the resale value of the vehicle is considerably higher.

“We have a great relationship with our local dealer and the service we get from them is excellent. Richard and the rest of the sales team are always happy to offer advice and are open and transparent in everything they do. That’s the main reason we keep going back to them time and again.”

One of the new trucks has gone into operation for John’s son’s business – Singh Transport – working on a franchise basis for Breedon Aggregates. The other will work for parent company ASB on its contract with Tarmac.

The two tippers feature gearbox software tailored for construction operations, ensuring the drivers can get the best performance from the 12-speed I-Shift transmission. This helps ensure the trucks can handle tougher road conditions and aids manoeuvrability when starting from standstill, in close-quarter manoeuvring, and when driving at low speeds.

ASB Transport works its trucks around the clock, seven-days-a-week, delivering to sites across the UK. The FMs – one fleet addition and one replacement for a vehicle previously supplied by a rival manufacturer – are expected to clock up to 120,000 km per annum and will be in service for at least four years.

Specified with a sleeper cab, combining a high level of comfort and safety, they are both covered by a five-year Volvo Blue Contract and come with a three-year subscription to the manufacturer’s fleet management system, Dynafleet.

Andrew Wright, Fuelwatch Manager at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, has been working with ASB to create a driver incentive scheme aimed at improving vehicle performance, fuel consumption and compliance.

“The work we do on driver training with Andrew is really valuable,” adds Singh. “We want to get the absolute maximum from every truck we operate and Dynafleet helps us to do that. Andrew is great, he’s always available to talk to, very knowledgeable, and offers us sound advice to best interpret the data and information we receive.”

ASB Transport is a growing business, working predominantly in the construction sector. The FORS Standard operator is known as a reliable and trustworthy company in Leicestershire and the surrounding area, with experience of working on several high-profile projects including the delivery of the HS2 railway line that will link London, the Midlands and the North.
