The Wolverhampton-based business has always used second-hand vehicles since it was established 24 years ago by brothers Dalvinder and Ishvinder Singh Boparai, with the support of their family. However, the firm decided to opt for new trucks for its latest order having weighed up the fuel-saving potential and strong driver focus of the Volvo FH with I-Save Unlimited Edition.

“We’re Volvo through and through; we started out with an FL10 and they have always been our primary manufacturer of choice,” says Dalvinder. “We find that Volvo is just a very good product to work with – they are reliable and don’t let you down.”

Supplied by Oliver Wright, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the new trucks replace 13 used Volvo FHs, with two fleet additions.

“Over the last several years, we have built a really strong relationship with Kevin Bassindale, the Sales Executive at Volvo Used Trucks’ Wellingborough depot and he pointed us in Oliver’s direction when we decided to go for new models. This latest FH Unlimited Edition with the high-spec Globetrotter XL cab is as good as you can get. When we combined that with the fuel figures the turbo compound I-Save engine could give us, it was a really easy decision in the end.”

The company mainly focuses on container haulage, and the new trucks will work five days a week, clocking up roughly 140,000km per year.

The Unlimited Edition FHs all feature a luxurious Globetrotter XL cab interior with microwave, fridge, memory function deluxe electric driver’s seat with heat and lumbar support, premium black leather upholstery, black leather steering wheel, black door panels, television and media package. They also benefit from an enhanced exterior finish, with chrome detailing, Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and Conger Black premium chassis paint.

Each truck is equipped with additional exterior cameras for added safety and have been fitted with the required Direct Vision Standard equipment to work in London.

Volvo Trucks has made a £1,000 donation to “NHS Charities Together” for every FH Unlimited Edition vehicle sold in the UK, with the fleet supplied to Majors Service raising £15,000 alone to support the collective of NHS charities.

Majors Service opted for the FH with I-Save model for maximum fuel efficiency. This sees the new trucks benefit from Volvo’s proven D13TC Euro-6 Step D engine with turbo-compounding and updated fuel-efficiency features, for a 300 Nm of uplift in torque. This means less acceleration and fuel is required in steady motorway traffic. Other features on the I-Save models include I-See predictive cruise control, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead and includes gear-shifting software optimised for long-haul missions.

“The second-hand Volvo tractor units we’ve run in the past are proven, robust trucks, but these are a real step up for us,” adds Dalvinder. “Having new trucks on the fleet will help us reduce the number of parts we need to buy and just give us that added peace of mind.”
