R.L Proudlock & Sons has taken delivery of a brand-new Volvo FH Globetrotter 540 6x2 tractor unit.

Supplied by Jonny Devlin, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the new arrival joins a predominantly Volvo fleet and replaces an older model in the business.

Daniel Proudlock, Director, R.L Proudlock & Sons, says: “Volvo has been ever present with us practically since the company was founded, meaning that it is our natural first port of call whenever we are ready to bring on a new truck. This time around, it was no different, and while we were very fond of the ’15 plate Volvo FH this new model is replacing, it is always exciting when a new truck arrives.

“As always, Jonny has been a huge help, taking the time to fully understand exactly what we needed on the spec, ultimately securing us a twin wheel tag axle setup that allows us to have an extra two tonnes on the rear. That ensures we have a very capable truck that can handle whatever we throw at it.”

The vehicle’s D13K Euro-6 compliant Step E engine – producing 540 hp and a maximum 2,600Nm of torque – will allow the FH to easily tackle the business’ entire range of activities, which includes plant distribution alongside livestock, bulk and general haulage.

A 12-speed I-Shift transmission delivers a smooth drive – perfectly timing every gear change by constantly evaluating information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand.

Proudlock has also opted for a Visibility+ package, which includes V-Shaped LED headlamps, electrically heated and operated rear view mirrors and rain-sensing windscreen wipers, alongside additional LED spot lamps, granting the driver a crystal-clear view of their surroundings whatever the weather.

Numerous comfort-boosting extras, most notably leather upholstery, a heated and ventilated driver’s seat, twin bunks and full air suspension, are also onboard. The latter also increases the FH’s practicality.

“Delivering heavy plant equipment can be particularly challenging when you consider the tight country roads and farmland we have to tackle, so having the ability to easily adjust the truck’s ride height as needed is really valuable,” adds Proudlock. “We take a lot of pride in our Volvo fleet, so anything we can do to avoid those minor bumps and scrapes that come with our line of work is warmly welcomed.”

Completing the build, the company has also included a microwave and fridge, while the truck’s sleek dark green livery and Alcoa Dura Bright alloys mean it immediately stands out on the road.

Founded in 1975, R.L Proudlock & Sons is a family-run business based in the Northumberland hamlet of Kirkheaton, from which the company operates across the UK. Its new FH is expected to clock up to 120,000km annually and remain in its fleet for at least three years.
