Campbell Contracts has acquired a Volvo FM 500 6x2 tag axle tractor unit, plated for 65-tonne GCW operation.

Supplied by Damian Kerin, New Sales Executive, Dennison Commercials, the truck joins a 40-strong commercial vehicle fleet, which also includes a first-generation FH and an FL7 tractor unit, both of which are still operational.

Brendan Campbell, Director, Campbell Contracts, says: “We’ve had a long relationship with Volvo, and that trust has only grown stronger over the years. From the very first truck we bought through Damian when he started at Dennison Commercials, we’ve consistently seen the reliability and performance Volvo brings to the table.

“Volvo’s trucks have always stood up to the demands of our work, with our FL7 a case in point. That kind of longevity speaks volumes about the build quality and engineering which goes into every model. Together with the team at Dennison’s, Volvo continues to deliver on both product and aftersales support, and this new addition to our fleet is no exception.”

The customer’s latest Volvo FM will work predominantly across Northern Ireland, helping to transport plant equipment and hauling sand, while operating out of the customer’s base in Tempo, County Fermanagh. It will operate with either a low loader Max Trailer or a Schmitz Cargobull S.KI tipping trailer, covering around 80,000 km annually.

The FM is powered by Volvo’s D13K engine, providing up to 500 hp and up to 2,500 Nm of torque. This is driven through Volvo’s I-Shift automated 12-speed transmission, which helps to improve safety, driveability and optimise fuel consumption.

The transmission has also been upgraded with optimised software for construction and off-road operation. This boosts manoeuvrability when starting from a standstill, as well as when driving at low speeds, making it ideal for the tougher road conditions expected.

Driver comfort is ensured thanks to a spacious and well-equipped Globetrotter cab featuring dual armrests, an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt, extra cab storage and a handy 28-litre fridge.

Visibility has been maximised through rain-sensing windscreen wipers, static cornering lights, and Volvo’s distinctive and powerful V-Shaped LED headlamps.

The new arrival is covered by a Volvo Gold Contract for full cost control, worry-free ownership, and maximum uptime.

A family-run business founded in the 1960s, Campbell Contracts’ remit today covers various fields of construction, including quarrying, civil engineering, and project management.
