Trevor Pye Transport has marked its 40th year in business with the delivery of a new Volvo FH Aero 6x2 tractor unit.

The Shropshire-based business will use the new arrival for temperature-controlled distribution, as well as general haulage work, throughout the UK – transporting everything from refrigerated food and fruit to groceries and seeds.

Husband and wife team Trevor and Margaret Pye founded the company more than four decades ago with a single Volvo F7, and the business has been buying trucks from the Swedish marque ever since.

“Volvo has been our manufacturer of choice since we started – we do have other makes on the fleet, but we have always been predominantly Volvo,” says Trevor. “We like to keep our vehicles on the road for a long-time and they make good, reliable trucks that stand the test of time. We marked the 30th anniversary with a Volvo FH which is still in service, so we hope this new one will perform equally as well.”

Supplied by Jack Hulse, Fleet Solutions Manager, Hartshorne Group, the FH Aero is equipped with Volvo’s D13K Euro-6 engine which delivers 540 hp and a maximum torque output of 2,600 Nm between 1,000 and 1,450 rev/min, for great driveability, efficiency and performance. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission, enabling seamless gear changes in a fraction of a second and smooth acceleration.

The sleek aerodynamic design of the FH Aero is adorned with Trevor Pye Transport’s red, white and blue livery, with hand-painted signwriting pointing to the anniversary. Its stunning exterior is finished with additional lightbar and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.

Inside the Globetrotter cab, the specification is equally as impressive, with full leather interior, electronic air conditioning with carbon filter and sun, mist and air quality sensors, adjustable steering wheel with neck-tilt, microwave oven and fridge / freezer, among other creature comforts.

The driving performance is improved with Volvo’s I-See predictive cruise control, which helps to reduce fuel emissions by optimising speed, gear changes and coasting to the topography, curves, roundabouts and speed limits ahead. Safety is boosted with Side Collision Avoidance Support that uses radar sensors to detect pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles on both sides of the truck.

“The FH Aero is replacing a vehicle from a different manufacturer, and we’ve certainly had no complaints from the driver,” adds Trevor. “He seems very happy with his new truck.”

Established in 1984 and based in the market town of Wem, Trevor Pye Transport is a family-run business. Originally, much of the work involved the collection and distribution of cheese but it has broadened its range of services and today transports a variety of goods nationwide.
