Finished in a striking black, yellow and gold livery, the vehicle celebrates the prestigious five-star rating secured by the FH Aero in last year’s Euro NCAP heavy-duty truck safety tests. This score reflects the truck’s excellent performance on criteria such as driver support and collision avoidance, delivering enhanced traffic safety for the driver and surrounding road users.
The FH Aero also received Euro NCAP’s City Safe award, for trucks that feature technologies or good design which can prevent accidents that typically happen in cities or urban environments.
Hannah Mayo, Director of New Vehicle Sales for Volvo Trucks UK & Ireland, says: “Achieving five stars in Euro NCAP's inaugural truck test was a significant milestone; we wanted to create a striking special edition model to help our customers stand out and demonstrate their commitment to safety.
“The FH Aero’s distinctive profile already ensures effortless cruising at high speed, great fuel efficiency, and a commanding view for the driver – now backed by independently proven safety credentials which are second-to-none.”
Tractor units within the Volvo FH Aero range can be specified by the customer to meet Euro NCAP’s five-star standard, but only 30 special edition examples featuring the celebratory livery will be produced. They will each come with a comprehensive 24-month Volvo Gold Contract included, to reflect their premium status.
To achieve the five-star Euro NCAP rating, a Volvo FH Aero tractor unit must first be built to the General Safety Regulation 2 level, launched by the European Union to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the road by introducing state-of-the-art safety technologies as standard vehicle equipment. GSR2 includes Emergency Stop Signal, Reversing Safety Camera, Blind Spot Information System, Intelligent Speed Assistance, Driver Alert Support, Alcohol Interlock Installation and the Moving Off Information System.
To reach Euro NCAP’s highest five-star standard, Volvo’s new Camera Monitoring System, Predictive Cruise Control with Speed Adaptation, Volvo Dynamic Steering, Lane Change Support, Passenger Corner Camera, Passenger Side-Turn Emergency Brake and Headway Support are added to the factory-build specification.
The FH Aero Euro NCAP Special Edition will join a celebrated line-up of FHs that have earned ‘special edition’ status over the last decade. This includes the FH Unlimited Edition in 2020, which helped to raise money for the NHS during the pandemic; the FH ‘25 Year’ Special Edition, to mark the model’s quarter of a century anniversary in 2018; and the FH ‘Ailsa’ Edition in 2017, to celebrate 50 years of Volvo Trucks in the UK.
The Volvo FH Aero was one of only two heavy trucks to score five stars in Euro NCAP’s Truck Test 2024. The second model was the Volvo FM, which is designed primarily for regional haul applications and missions around urban areas.
