Slam Transport has acquired 50 new FH with I-Save 460 6x2 tractor units.

Supplied by Rory Kelly, Transport Solutions Executive, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the latest arrivals mean that 35% of the customer’s 250-strong commercial vehicle fleet is now Volvo-supplied – a significant increase since it returned to the manufacturer in 2020.

Danny Gould, Senior Transport Manager, Slam Transport, says: “We’re well versed in what Volvo brings to the table, and so it was a no-brainer to return for our 2025 intake. All our existing Volvos consistently deliver impressive fuel economy and superior driving performance, which makes them a firm favourite among our drivers.

“The service support is also top-notch. Rory and the wider Volvo team have a deep understanding of our challenges and goals. They always go above and beyond to translate our needs into a solution that not only works but exceeds our expectations. With Volvo, it’s clear we’re working with a manufacturer that genuinely cares about our success.”

Slam Transport’s FH with I-Save tractor units each feature a D13TC Euro-6 Step E engine, producing 460 hp and 2,600 Nm of torque, benefitted by turbo-compounding technology. This allows drivers to maintain lower revs and a higher gear for a longer time for a more fuel-efficient journey.

Also included in the I-Save package is Volvo’s predictive cruise control system, I-See, which analyses and adapts to gradients in the road ahead, and I-Cruise with I-Roll, which adjusts speed to further optimise fuel consumption.

Additional fuel economy gains are unlocked by roof and cab side air deflectors, as well as Volvo’s proven 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox. The popular transmission analyses factors such as speed, weight, road grade, and torque demand to perfectly time every shift.

Slam Transport is closely monitoring the performance of the new vehicles using Volvo Connect, which combines a host of digital and connected services via one user-friendly portal.

Each of the new FH trucks is equipped with a Globetrotter cab that includes a lower fixed bunk with a semi-firm pocket sprung mattress, a luxury sleeper control panel, generous storage compartments, and a 33-litre fridge/freezer.

Also included in the specification are Volvo’s Visibility+ and Drive+ packages. These include features such as the manufacturer’s distinctive V-Shaped LED headlights that automatically adjust to ambient light conditions, electrically heated and operated mirrors, an adjustable steering wheel with neck-tilt and dual armrests on the driver’s seat.

All the trucks are backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, the manufacturer’s highest-tier service contract. This will see all routine maintenance undertaken by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre Coventry, which is located just seven miles from Slam Transport’s base.

Founded in 2015, Slam Transport today offers general haulage services from its Coventry headquarters, operating 24/7, 365 days a year. Its new trucks are expected to remain in service for three years, each covering 90,000 km annually.
