Supplied by Jason Robinson, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the new FH will transport a range of industrial steam and hot water boilers to customers across the UK, with typical delivery locations including hospitals, breweries and factories.
John Thornton, Transport Supervisor, Byworth Boiler Hire, says: “We chose Volvo Trucks because of its reputation for reliability and long-term value. In this business, we can’t afford unexpected downtime and Volvo’s track record gave us confidence that we were investing in a vehicle that is built to last.
“The team at Crossroads took time to understand our specific needs and to present tailored options that met our expectations – that level of attention made a strong impression and reinforced our decision. We were looking for a long-term partner, and Volvo demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting our operations.”
The new FH is powered by a D13K Euro-6 compliant Step E engine, which produces 540 hp and a maximum 2,600 Nm of torque. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission which delivers a smooth drive with perfectly timed gear changes by constantly evaluating information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand.
Numerous comfort-boosting extras are onboard, including leather upholstery, dual armrests on both the driver and passenger seats, and fully electronic air conditioning with a carbon filter and sun, mist, air quality sensors.
Visibility is increased thanks to rain-sensing windscreen wipers, electrically heated and operated rear view mirrors, and static cornering headlamps.
The inclusion of a tag axle in the specification was particularly important for Byworth Boiler Hire given the benefits it provides in terms of manoeuvrability, reduced tyre wear, and improved fuel efficiency.
“The tag axle configuration plays a crucial role in helping us to manage weight distribution so we can optimise our workflow without compromising on safety or performance,” adds Thornton.
Completing the build, the company has also included a microwave and Alcoa Dura Bright alloys in the specification.
Founded in 1968, family-run Byworth Boiler Hire manufacturers energy-efficient industrial steam and hot water boilers from its Yorkshire headquarters. The customer’s new FH – specified for up to 65-tonne operation – is expected to clock up to 100,000 km annually, typically working five days a week.
