NEWS SUMMARY:
Since welcoming its first two FH Aero 6x2 tractor units in early 2026 – direct replacements for trucks previously supplied by a competing manufacturer – the customer has unlocked a valuable drop in fuel spend and also in its commercial vehicle fleet’s carbon footprint.
Stefan Davchevski, Fleet Manager, CP Transportation Services, says: “With fuel prices remaining volatile, improving efficiency is a constant priority for us. That need is what pushed us towards the FH Aero, and the model has delivered as we had hoped.
“The FH Aero suits the type of work we do perfectly, easily handling long-distance container movements across the country while maintaining efficiency and driver comfort. It has integrated smoothly into the fleet and is performing exactly as we need it to.”
Powertrain built for savings
Supplied by Matt Kubot, Transport Solutions Executive, Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the customer’s new Volvos each feature a Euro 6-compliant D13TC Step E engine that relies on turbo compounding to produce up to 460 hp and a peak torque of 2,600 Nm, paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield significant sustainability benefits.
The presence of Volvo’s ultra-efficient turbo-compound engine technology plays a significant role in maximising CP Transportation Services’ fuel economy. This sees the use of an extra turbine installed after the turbocharger to reuse excess energy from the exhausts, allowing energy to be converted to torque directly on the crankshaft to create a powerful and extremely fuel-efficient engine.
In practice, this allows the customer’s drivers to maintain lower revs and a higher gear for a longer time, contributing to a smoother and quieter journey in addition to generating sizeable economy gains.
Designed to reduce drag and costs
The powertrain provides an ideal platform for maximising fuel economy gains, capitalised by the FH Aero’s aerodynamic design. CP Transportation Services has boosted this further by replacing the traditional exterior mirrors with Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS). CMS also increases the driver’s field of view, and when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns.
“The new camera technology has made a real difference in our day-to-day operations,” adds Davchevski. “Not only is visibility noticeably improved, but the reduced drag is also contributing to better fuel efficiency, so it’s delivering both practical and operational benefits for the business.”
The FH Aeros will be on the road five days per week, delivering containers nationwide. The trucks are expected to clock up to 150,000 km annually, while remaining on the fleet for at least five years. All the trucks are covered by a Volvo Gold Contract, guaranteeing maximum uptime and peace of mind.
Founded in 2005, CP Transportation Services offers a wide range of container delivery services, operating across the UK and into continental Europe.
