NEWS SUMMARY:
The fully loaded 6x2 tractor unit with tag axle replaces a truck from a rival manufacturer and will be used to transport the company’s heavy plant machinery to customer sites across the country.
Craig Fletcher, Director at Gary Fletcher Surfacing, says: “It’s our anniversary next year so we wanted something a little bit special to mark the occasion, and this stunning FH Aero certainly fits the bill.
“We have run Volvos in the past and have come back now having had a bit of a bad experience with our previous manufacturer. The aftersales support had always been superb when we ran our older Volvos, and we’d heard great things about the FH Aero, which meant it was a straightforward decision when it came to this latest order.”
A versatile tool ideal for the customer’s needs
The new FH Aero will be paired with a low loader trailer to move Gary Fletcher Surfacing’s Vogel paving machine and two rollers to and from customer sites across the UK. The business has also recently invested in a tipping trailer to shift aggregates.
Supplied by Jamie Chambers, Area Sales Manager at Crossroads Truck & Bus, the FH Aero is powered by a Volvo D13K Euro-6 engine which delivers 540 hp and a maximum torque output of 2,600 Nm between 1,000 and 1,450 rev/min, for great driveability, efficiency and performance. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission, enabling seamless gear changes in a fraction of a second and smooth acceleration.
The sleek aerodynamic design of the FH Aero is adorned with a Millenium Silver Metallic livery. Its eye-catching exterior is finished with light bar, air horns and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.
There’s been no stone left unturned with the specification inside the Globetrotter cab either. The company’s drivers are treated to a custom black full leather interior, microwave, fridge / freezer, practical foldaway table, adjustable air pocket spring mattress and the I-Park Cool system for battery-powered climate control.
A specification built to impress
Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS) is also equipped. Replacing the traditional exterior mirrors, CMS helps to boost aerodynamic performance. The system increases the driver’s field of view, and also performs strongly in rainy and dark conditions, in direct sunlight, and even when driving in tunnels.
“We’ve left no stone unturned on the specification,” adds Fletcher. “It’s fully loaded with everything we could possibly need. This is the only tractor unit that we run so we worked closely with the team at Crossroads to make sure everything was spot on.”
The FH Aero is expected to clock around 80,000 km per year and is covered by a full Volvo Gold Contract for maximum uptime and peace of mind.
Located in Dronfield, Derbyshire, Gary Fletcher Surfacing’s expert team undertakes many aspects of surfacing, including highways, roads and footpaths, driveways, car parks, sports grounds, petrol stations, industrial units, retail stores and airfields. Its customers include many of the UK’s leading housebuilders, civil engineer companies, national retail chains, local authorities, as well as private homeowners.
