NEWS SUMMARY:
Supplied by Alistair Mann, Area Sales Executive, Crossroads Truck & Bus, the trucks were selected following a closely supported procurement process between the customer and Volvo, with the manufacturer’s reputation for reliability, aftersales support and willingness to tailor the vehicle specification to meet operational requirements proving decisive factors.
Chris Radford, Logistics Manager, Advanced Plastics, says: “As a manufacturer, we need vehicles that support our operation efficiently and reliably every day. Volvo took the time to understand how we load, transport and deliver our products, resulting in a solution that aligns closely with our requirements.
“The FLs have integrated seamlessly into our operation, helping us increase delivery capacity and support our customers more effectively. Coupled with the full repair and maintenance package, they allow us to focus on what we do best.”
The two new FL rigids are powered by Volvo’s D8K engine, producing 250 hp and a peak torque figure of 950 Nm, driven through an eight-speed automated transmission. This impressive level of torque helps to significantly reduce the need for gear-changing, whilst making it perfect for urban distribution, with easy low-speed handling and quick acceleration.
The Volvo FLs will be used to distribute Advanced Plastics’ in-house engineered plastic products to customers across Yorkshire, typically operating Monday through Friday.
Bespoke bodywork boosts efficiency
A key feature of the rigids is their bespoke bodywork, designed around Advanced Plastics’ products and operational requirements. Developed in close collaboration with Volvo Trucks, the bodies allow products to be double stacked while still enabling safe, efficient loading and unloading.
Combined with increased body length and carrying capacity, the new vehicles have streamlined loading operations, increasing delivery volumes per trip to reduce the number of journeys required daily.
The FLs are backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, which includes preventive maintenance and repairs to guarantee Advanced Plastics the most comprehensive and personal service, offering total peace of mind.
