NEWS SUMMARY:
Headquartered in Trafford Park, Manchester, the container haulage business has traditionally run with other manufacturers but turned to Volvo Trucks for this latest intake having heard good industry reviews about the FH Aero.
Jim Baker, National Fleet Manager at BCD Logistics, says: “When I was looking at the market and speaking to other hauliers they were raving about the performance and efficiency of the FH Aero. I made some enquiries with our local dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials and agreed to take a seed truck for an initial six-month period.
“That truck worked out fantastically well. The fuel figures were up on anything else we were running, the comfort in the cab was excellent and the service we received from Thomas Hardie was top drawer. That all-round package made it a very easy decision in the end.”
A precise specification ideally suited to the application
Paul McNicholas, E-Mobility Account Manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, worked closely with BCD Logistics, to ensure the vehicles met the company’s exacting standards. Each vehicle has been specified with an extensive range of features, prioritising driver comfort, operational efficiency and the safety of both drivers and vulnerable road users.
The ultra fuel-efficient FH Aeros are powered by Euro-6 compliant D13K Step E engines, producing 500 hp and a peak torque of 2,500 Nm. These are paired with Volvo’s popular automated 12-speed I-Shift transmission, which constantly evaluates information about speed, weight, road grade and torque demand to enable perfectly timed gearshifts.
Driver satisfaction is guaranteed with spacious and well-equipped Globetrotter cabs, each featuring dual armrests, an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt, extra cab storage and leather upholstery, among other creature comforts.
New technologies impress BCD Logistics’ drivers
BCD Logistics has also opted to boost the FH Aero’s aerodynamic design by replacing the traditional exterior mirrors with Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS). As well as improving fuel efficiency, CMS helps to increase the driver’s field of view, and when driving with a trailer, deploys auto-panning functionality to follow the rear of the trailer as it turns.
“We’re really happy with how the units have turned out,” adds Baker. “The five drivers who we have given the trucks to love them. The fuel efficiency is excellent and all the safety systems on these new trucks add to the overall experience. You always hear some negativity about new technologies, but it’s a different story once you actually try it. All the drivers are really happy with how the camera mirrors are performing.”
Operating out of the company’s site in Trafford Park, the new FH Aeros are covered by five-year Volvo Gold contracts guaranteeing maximum uptime and peace of mind.
