Supplied by Jonny Devlin, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, the 6x2 pusher axle Lite tractor units are powered by Volvo’s G13C engines, which drive I-Shift automated 12-speed gearboxes. The FM Sleeper Cabs are equipped with full aerodynamic kits and inside feature One Bed Resting and High Power Audio packages. The chassis specification also includes Jost JSK36 Sensor fifth wheels and Alcoa aluminium wheels.
Driver feedback on the new Volvo LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) vehicles has also been positive. “We ran a comprehensive pre-delivery training session before practical learning on refuelling methods and vehicle familiarisation. The drivers love the new FM LNGs and many more of our driving team are keen to try the trucks. Refuelling is generally quicker than a conventional diesel truck and the operating range will permit us to get in return trips to Scotland’s Central Belt."
“We are double-shifting the new FM LNG trucks seven days a week,” reports Martin Brown, Managing Director at McPherson Ltd, adding, “At present the two are transporting distillery by-products, but they are both equipped to full ADR specification for bulk spirit movements. Our company ethos is to constantly push the technology boundaries to offer McPherson customers the very latest sustainable logistics solutions. The FM LNG vehicles fit that aim.”
"Both FM LNGs are covered by a four-year Volvo Service contract, which will be carried out at either the Aberdeen or Inverness dealerpoints,” Martin declares.
